Spring superhero

And so we concurred London, which felt very mild after the frostbitten NYC. I got a bit carried away celebrating the fact that I could ease into my spring wardrobe in February, notice the lack of black and the missing heavy coat, we are getting somewhere. I wore brand new season Charlie May with a superhero-like cape, I would like to say it was all well planned but the truth is that I was forced to rely on the newness that I picked up from the post office after flying straight in from New York to take on London fashion week. I few outfits lined up while I enjoy missing out on Milan, because I need my strength for Paris!

The hero piece that kept we warm all week. Overly long sleeves, massive collar, you might remember it comes with a matching skirt, too. This weeks take was however a bit more tailored, three-courters palazzo pants came to freshen the silhouette. May it remain a mystery how many pairs of cut off tights I wore underneath.

So weather took an awkward turn in NYC, so instead of wearing a nicely planned outfit, I had to wear everything - kinda like Joey from Friends. However, we made it and the second week of fashion month is already in full swing here in London, which feels very much like a tropical destination. Hello bare legs - finally!

Hello from New York fashion week! It’s the season again and I decided somewhat last minute to join the fashion crew here in minus thousand degrees. However, I’m Finnish so dressing for the colder days is something I’ve had to do before.... No open toe shoes for me this winter, there is surprisingly many them here. More of the usual WhatIwore’s to follow.

I had you at Hello

Not that I ever had a day too similar to the previous, this week has been a little extra special to me. Five years ago I sat in my new London flat and published my first ever blogpost, simply titled ‘Hello’. I had no idea that I had just taken the first step to the rest of my life. Five years later, I’ve experienced opportunities beyond my dreams with a signature shoe collection for River Island as a fresh highlight of my blogging career. All of this, sponsored by sleepless nights but one hundred percent fueled by you.

As a little break from the usual street style, we shot a series of Fifty Shades, B&W photos with Finnish photographer Heli Roosmäe that I’m excited to share with you. More to come soon.

So Thank you, Kiitos, Tack. Cheers to another year!

The Brush Contest

sandra12c

Listen up all aspiring makeup artists, beauty bloggers and cosmetic enthusiasts! I'm teaming up with L'Oreal Paris to launch 'The Brush Contest' - the first, global search for the next great makeup designer for L’Oreal Paris. The prize - A one year contract worth a whopping €100,000 could be yours, simply show us your bold take on the trend 'Colour Clash' by getting creative in a short tutorial video.

See details and enter here

In my take on the 'Colour Clash' theme, I played around with hues of red, matching it with soft, baby blue nails, perfect for a fresh, spring-like look. The colours are never as scary as they seem in the palette, just layer up and remember the blending brush is your best friend.

Start with a fresh face, lay on the base, a highlighter around the eyes and good primer on the lids.

Apply the eye liner, I recommend the 'Super Liner' for a perfectly, precise flick. Paint it on slowly, with your eyes open and remember to also apply it inside the lash line for an intense finish. I used the more liquid 'Super Liner' for the inner lash line.

Start playing around with the colours. I used 'Colour Riche Dual Effects' in Rose Nude. Apply the light pink tone on the top lids, under the brows, and in the inner corner of your eyes. Using a blending brush, fade it out for an even base. Dab on the deep red on the upper lid, don't worry about an even finish at this stage. Apply equal amount on both eyes as pictured.

Work the blending brush on the coloured lids until you are have a smooth finish. Aim to have more colour in the outer corner of your eye and in the crease. Also apply a thin line of the dark red under the eye with a smaller, flat brush for a framed look. This will also make your eyes appear bigger.

Apply the highlighter tone from the palette on the middle of the lid, under the brows and in the inner corner of your eye.

Then apply two layers of mascara. I used 'Miss Manga' in black. Use a cotton swab to clean up under the winged flick, all colour should only sit above this line.

Then comes the bight reds! After lining the lips, I used 'Colour Riche' Blake, to match my pale skin tone.

Voila! As a finishing touch, I used a darker lip liner, the 'Contour Parfait' in Burgundy, to line the corner of the lips for some added drama.
